A bus belonging to Tahmeed company with 48 passengers burst into flames along the Nairobi- Mombasa highway on Sunday February 4, 2024 and burnt completely.
The bus that was headed to Malindi from Nairobi burst into flames, a few kilometers from Voi town.
According to the police, all the passengers were safely evacuated and nobody was injured during the Sunday morning incident.
The cause of the fire is still unknown but police are investigating the matter.
At the same time, the Tahmeed management has also confirmed that all the 48 passengers escaped with no injuries being reported.
However, most passengers lost their property, as they were unable to retrieve their luggage during the 4 am incident.
“Fortunately, all 48 passengers onboard were evacuated safely and promptly. We are grateful for the swift action that ensured everyone’s safety.
“Our teams assisted these passengers with completing their journey on alternative buses.”
“We understand this event may have caused significant inconvenience and distress, and we sincerely apologize for any impact it has had on our passengers,” read part of a statement from Tahmeed.
A similar fire incident involving a bus from the same company occurred in January 2023.
In the previous incident, the bus that was carrying 42 passengers from Nairobi to Mombasa burst into flames in Voi. Nobody was injured during the fire accident.
Police are still investigating both fire incidents, as they warned that long distance buses should undergo regular inspection and maintenance to avoid similar cases being reported in the country.
In January 2024 another bus caught fire in Kanga area in Makueni County along the Nairobi- Mombasa highway but all passengers escaped without injuries.
