Eleven people were confirmed dead in the early morning of Monday January 29, 2024 following a road accident that occurred between Awasi and Ahero along the Kisumu -Nairobi highway.
The accident was confirmed by Nyanza Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer Allan Mwangi who said that the accident involved a bus that was heading to Nairobi from Kampala and a lorry.
According to the police boss, the accident occurred at around 2 am, Monday morning.
Mwangi also reported that passengers who were injured during the accident were admitted to Ahero Sub-county Hospital.
Those in critical condition were rushed to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) for medical attention.
Two women, 8 men and a teenage boy died on the spot during the accident as 53 other passengers sustained injuries.
The accident occurred at a time when several people have perished in road accidents in the country since the year began.
For instance, three people died in an accident on January 4, 2024 at Timboroa along the Eldoret – Nakuru highway.
The accident involved a Mistubishi bus and 3 other vehicles including a Toyota Probox.
