Pwani University in Kilifi County is mourning the loss of a first year student who was allegedly stabbed to death.
The deceased, Faith Awuor Owino, is said to have been attacked by knife-wielding thugs on her way to school on Friday morning.
The unfortunate incident apparently occurred along Misifuni Road at 7am.
Reports on Pwani University student groups indicate that Owino was attacked after refusing to hand over her phone to the unknown persons.
Student passes away in hospital
Efforts to save the 20-year-old went futile as she succumbed to injuries despite being rushed to Mephi Hospital.
Her situation swiftly deteriorated, prompting medics to transfer her to Kilifi County Hospital where she passed away.
Students now allege that a similar incident occurred last year.
Condolence messages have begun streaming in from the students and Kenyans at large.
“Comrade Faith Awuor, It’s hard to believe that you are gone. It pains that you went brutally, yet to meet your dream. Words aren’t enough, but you shall forever be in our memories,” one Facebook post read.
It appears that insecurity is on the rise and students fear the situation might get worse if not addressed promptly by the institution’s management.

Pwani University girl stabbed
In a separate incident, a third year student from Pwani University was stabbed by a man alleged to be her ex-lover.
The victim, Naomi Chepkemboi, was rushed to Kilifi County Hospital after sustaining several stab wounds in her chest.
Reports indicated that the suspect was a student from Kenyatta University identified as Henry Kipkoech.
Kipkoech reportedly arrived at the lady’s room bearing a bag that contained three knives. Immediately she opened the door from him he apparently began stabbing her.
Students came to the rescue and eventually the man was arrested and taken to Kilifi Police Station and investigations into the matter began.
