Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has finally addressed rumors about succeeding Azimio leader Raila Odinga.
Babu Owino was speaking on TV47’s Wabebe XP Show hosted by Willis Raburu every Friday from 10 PM.
“What I can say is that Baba (Raila) is my king and my leader as we speak, and I need to respect that. It is wrong to discuss succession politics when the king is still alive,” the lawmaker began.
Supporting Raila Odinga
Babu Owino maintained that as a member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party and ally of Raila, his duty was to assist him in carrying out his mandate as their leader.
“If somebody has a wife, you don’t discuss how you will inherit the wife when the person is still alive,” he added, chuckling.
The Embakasi East MP finally revealed that he was interested in stepping up and succeeding Raila but at the right time.
“Our time will come and when that time comes I can assure you what you have said is going to be true,” he said, in response to whether he will succeed Raila.
Babu Owino’s options for 2027
Speculations have been rife on which seat Babu Owino will go for in 2027. He is currently serving his second term after retaining the Embakasi East MP seat in 2022.
The lawyer laid bare his four options come 2027.
“I am overqualified to win any position in this country from the President to a village elder,” he blew his trumpet.
Babu Owino eluded confidence that he would become even the president if he so wished.
‘Mambo ni manne’
“I have an option of going for President and I can go and be successful. Number two, I have the option of being the deputy president in 2027. Number three I have an option of being a governor in 2027.
“It is not just about going for it but going to be in that position, because I have everything that I’m required to have to win that position,” he asserted.
Nevertheless, Babu Owino stated that he could seek the legislative seat for a third time.
The lawmaker maintained he would make the big announcement between 2025 and 2026, after serving his constituents.
