The National Unity Platform (NUP) party leader Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has urged America and the European Union to stop funding President Museveni’s government.
Bobi Wine explained that Museveni’s National Resistance Movement (NRM) government was using public funds to oppress Ugandans.
“This is a message to the EU and Americans, We are not asking you to remove the dictator, we are asking you to stop sponsoring the dictator,” said Bobi Wine.
The Uganda’s opposition leader was speaking during his countrywide tour while addressing NUP supporters in Mbale.
“Museveni is an agent of neo-colonialism. Museveni has turned us into slaves in our own motherland,” he added.
He told Mbale residents that he was not seeking votes but he was interested in informing the masses to wake up and resist the NRM government.
Bobi Wine promised to continue with his countrywide tours, noting that nobody will dare stop him from spreading the people power message to Ugandans.
“People must be wondering why we haven’t been stopped today by beating us and using teargas. We recorded them in the previous election and we went to the International Criminal Court, anytime the arrest warrant is going out,” he added.
The NUP party leader urged Ugandans not to be misled by President Museveni’s son, General Muhoozi who has declared interest in becoming president.
“Uganda is not a Monarch. What good can we expect from him, after what his dad has done to us? We should vote for change,” he said.
European Union funding
Statistics show that the EU provides Uganda with humanitarian aid through the Directorate General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG-ECHO) to the government.
Bobi Wine specifically pointed out that in 2022, the EU allocated about USh135 billion for humanitarian support to Uganda.
In addition, the EU has since the year 2017 allocated more than USh956 billion to Uganda.
