Former Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga again made headlines, this time for his heroics in a Nottingham Forest shirt.
Forest secured their first victory against Chelsea in a stunning upset at Stamford Bridge since January 1995.
Elanga, who came on in the first half due to an injury to Danilo, etched his name in the history books with a calm and precise finish, finding the net just three minutes into the second half.
His goal came courtesy of Taiwo Awoniyi’s pass, following a defensive mix-up involving Moises Caicedo and Conor Gallagher. This marked Elanga’s first club goal in an impressive 44 appearances.
Chelsea had started brightly but struggled to create clear-cut opportunities, while Forest missed their chances in the first half, with Awoniyi, notably, missing two golden opportunities.
Mauricio Pochettino, sensing the urgency, introduced new signing Cole Palmer and the returning Mykhailo Mudryk to the fray in search of an equalizer. However, Forest’s resilient defense held firm.
Despite late attempts by Thiago Silva and Raheem Sterling, Chelsea couldn’t find a breakthrough. Forest emerged victorious, marking their first win at Chelsea in over 18 years.
Nottingham Forest’s spirited defensive performance and their ability to capitalize on a rare scoring opportunity proved to be the difference.
As for Chelsea, they find themselves in a precarious position, with just one win from their first four Premier League matches.
Forest, on the other hand, is riding high on their remarkable victory as they look ahead to a clash against newly-promoted Burnley.
