Police in Kenya on Friday, August 25, arrested two suspects over the raping and killing of a 76-year-old woman at Serem, in Vihiga county.
According to the police report, the two were arrested in Majengo, Vihiga county, while in possession of the deceased’s mobile phone.
“The suspects were arrested in Majengo area while in possession of the deceased’s mobile phone that formed part of the items robbed from her during the July 18 robbery,” read part of the police report.
The officers explained that on the fateful night, the killer gang had broken into the old woman’s house and attacked her with blunt objects before raping her.
Police also reported that the suspects made away with her gas cylinder, a solar cable, and a phone.
Neighbors who heard the commotion responded on time and rushed her to Mbale Referral Hospital but she succumbed to the injuries two days later.
“The case that had been reported at the nearby Tambua Police Post was taken over by Hamisi Sub-county detectives, where Crime Scene Investigators backed up by their Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau counterparts initiated a forensic trail on the perpetrators,” DCI noted.
Police have intensified the search for other suspects as they interrogate the two suspects.
