National Assembly Chief Whip Sylvanus Osoro has warned President William Ruto against agreeing to a handshake with Azimio leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking during a tour in Nyamasage, Kisii County on Friday, Osoro told the head of state that the 2018 handshake between former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Odinga did not sit right with him.
“What we are strongly opposing is the ‘nusu mkate’ deal. Your Excellency ukiruhusu iyo utakuwa umetukosea sana,” he said.
In a rejoinder, the Chief Whip opined that he was in support of the ongoing talks involving a 10-member committee drawn from Kenya Kwanza and Azimio.
“Talks are not bad. In fact, they can continue talking until 2027 then we go to the ballot,” the South Mugirango MP added.
Osoro maintained that he would ensure the proposal to establish an Office for the Leader of Opposition passes in Parliament.
Kiharu Member of Parliament (MP) Ndindi Nyoro echoed his sentiments, insisting that there will be no handshake, and aggrieved parties should prepare for the next elections.
“Hakuna serikali ya mkate nusu, wacha ata slice moja. Watu wangoje 2027 tukapige kura,” Nyoro added.
